Long Creek Golf & Country Club – A Prairie Legacy Since 1987

Tucked into the stunning Avonlea Creek Valley just 4 km east of Avonlea, Long Creek Golf & Country Club isn’t just a golf course—it’s a piece of Saskatchewan history built on heart, vision, and community.

It all started in the 1980s when local legend Wally Nelson had a dream: to transform this breathtaking landscape into a championship-level course. With relentless passion, he opened the first nine holes in 1987, followed by a full 18-hole layout in 1991. By 1997, the club had grown to include a beautiful 11,000-square-foot clubhouse, complete with a restaurant and lounge, perfect for post-round laughs and celebrations

But Long Creek’s story isn’t just about the land—it’s about the people. Wally’s daughter, Jan Day, stood by his side through it all. Together, Wally and Jan poured their hearts into every fairway, every detail, and every smile that walked through the clubhouse doors. Their dedication made Long Creek what it is today: a place where golf meets community, and where every visit feels like coming home

Wally wasn’t just a builder of golf courses—he was a pillar of the community, serving on Avonlea’s village council for 15 years, including nine as mayor. His legacy reaches far beyond the greens. Let’s make new memories on these legendary fairways.

New Ownership - Same Core Prairie Principles

We’re proud to introduce our new ownership team: Jim Murphy, Dave Lantz, and Larry Dugdale. These three bring a wealth of business experience, a deep appreciation for community, and a shared passion for creating memorable experiences — both on and off the course.

Growing up around and Golfing at Long Creek Golf and Country all his life, Jim Murphy has spent his career building strong teams and successful businesses. With a background in operations and hospitality, Jim understands the value of great service and strong relationships. His focus is on creating a welcoming space where members and guests feel right at home.

Dave Lantz brings years of business leadership and entrepreneurial spirit. Known for his creative thinking and people-first approach, Dave is passionate about shaping Long Creek into a place where everyone — from locals to weekend visitors — can enjoy quality time and genuine connection.

Larry Dugdale has a strong background in management and customer experience. With a sharp business mind and a heart for the community, Larry is committed to preserving Long Creek’s charm while enhancing the experience with thoughtful improvements and fresh ideas.

Together, they’re blending tradition with innovation — keeping what makes Long Creek special while bringing in new energy and vision. Now, we are proud to preserve and build upon the foundation Wally and Jan laid. Long Creek continues to be a place for golfers of all skill levels to swing, laugh, and connect in a setting that’s as beautiful as the history behind it.
